Starting on Hats

Starting a new knitting project. These are going to be turned into my first hats. My cousin Alexandra was just diagnosed with Leukemia. I wanted to make sure that I got a yarn that would be nice and soft and I know that if I go to JoAnne's there won't really be anyone there with the knowledge I need. I did a little research on Google and found Yarn Cloud, a sweet little yarn shop just a few minutes down the road from my house. I am so glad I went in there because the woman who helped me was so knowledgable. I told her about the situation and she told me that I had to be careful about which yarn I chose since the treatments that Alex is receiving can make her allergic to certain things. I hadn't even taken that into consideration!

She also helped me by finding a simple pattern from Ravlery for me to use. I hope I can figure it out. She said not to use my Knifty Knitter because it can stretch out the yarn. At least the pattern that she gave me only decreases instead increasing. For whatever reason I cannot figure out how to increase. I have had people explain it to me a million times and it just doesn't stick. :-\

So here I am making my first hats. I'm hoping I can get about four out of the yarn I have. I figure Alexandra's sister would like to use them, too, since they are the same age.

My Mom's House

Here are some cool pictures of my how my Mom's house is decorated.

Peachy Cherry Crisp

I made this peach and cherry crisp the other night and it was delicious. Since no one else in the house seems to like peaches, the entire thing was mine!

Responsibilities

Trent's responsibility chart has finally been hung on the wall. We'll see if this helps him to learn what he needs to do.

My Pretty Bed

This is my very late birthday present to myself. I figure if I take the time to make the bed everyday I may as well make it look really nice! It might even motivate me to get the rest of my room all cleaned and organized.

A Persistent Flat

Image

This is what I was dealing with this morning. I had to wait quite a
while for AAA to show up, which I don't mind at all. It just means
I'll have to finish my errands tomorrow.

Anyway this is the second time in less than a month that this tire has
gone flat. I can't believe the thing actually took me to NY and back.
Looks like I might need to get a new tire. :-/

Breaking Internet Silence

So I have been uncharacteristically quiet on the Internet the past few
weeks. I have had more than one reason for this silence, the first
being that my SIL was throwing a surprise party for my FIL in NY. (I
didn't want to inadvertently let on about the party.) There was also
the fact that I was traveling from Virginia to New York and I find it
very hard to do much Internetting when I am specifically NY. Throw in
the fact that I got pretty sick upon our return home and you get
almost no updates for about two weeks.

That being said, despite a few hiccups it was a great trip home. The
surprise party went off so great! The kids had such a blast staying at
their Aunt Lisa's house. Trent didn't want to leave. The cake was so
fantastic.

I also got to hang out with my Aunt Tisha and cousin Kristen. Not as
much as I would have liked, but it was so great to see them. Throw in
a birthday party for my newly turned teen sister, Kerrie, and we had a
packed and fun-filled week. If I can remember to do it all add some
posts about some of our individual adventures to, in and back from NY.
Happy Birthday Peter! Happy Birthday Kerrie!

Great Perigee Moon Photo

This photo is great, much better than any of the pictures that I took of the March 19, 2011 Perigee Moon. At least I took some pictures.

Creating Digital Art

Trent is using the paintbrush program here. He spent all afternoon yesterday working on making these two masterpieces. Getting that mouse for him was one of the best ideas ever.

Future Projects

I decided I might also try making some socks. The middle pic will be
dish cloths and towels, if I do my math right. The third is me trying
to decide which colors I should use for Jen's baby blanket. I might
need to go out and buy some new yarn. I think she wanted yellow and
green, and there is definitely not enough green.

Time to Organize?

Photo

Apparently I was being a little ambitious in saying I would start a
project tonight. I think I need to do some serious yarn organizing.

Knitting Again

Now that I am actually living in the land of completing knitting projects once again (just look at those pictures! Two completed projects!), I feel confident in saying that I am starting two new projects right now! I have been wanting to knit up some dish cloths and towels to match the decor in MIL's kitchen and for years I've been telling her that I would do it. I am actually starting on them tonight! Yes! Also, my friend Jen just found out that she is pregnant and I am about to get started on a blanket for her! I know I can finish that on time because I have knit quite a few of those before. In fact, the yellow piece pictured is one of them. The other is a black chenille scarf that I have been trying to finish for Garrick for about four years. I finally figured out the reason that I kept avoiding the project was I was missing the only other size six knitting needle that I owned. I went out and bought myself a new set and finished the thing.
Anyways, it feels good to have finally finished these projects that I have been working on for years. One of these days I will actually learn how to knit something a little more complex than a blanket or scarf. I think after these projects are done it will be on to hats.
