S'mores Pockets

I found this easy three ingredient snack on pinterest. It was good!

Classroom Re-org

I spent most of the day yesterday re-organizing our classroom. It's now much easier for me to find everything I'm looking for when I need it and it's easier for the kids to reach their educational toys and exercises.

Back to School

Back to school this week and we are into the fifth week of our curriculum. I know we're going kind of slowly with this, but we were travelling during the first two months of the school year. I actually plan on bringing week six on the road with us. We'll see how that works out while we are traveling.

This week our theme is lighthouses. Here is Trent shining his beacon in the lighthouse he and I built, and the boys having a snack.

Ninja Jello Jigglers

I made jello jigglers. I used my new ninja bread men cookie cutters. Now there are jello ninjas.

I love my new bread pans!

Trent's Favorite Fruit Salad

Here are the boys helping me make a fruit salad from the fruit Santa brought. Each year Santa always puts fruit in the stockings and a box of clementines somewhere near the tree. We needed to use up our bananas and this recipe is perfect for that! It's so easy to just have the kids assemble it, especially since clementines are so easy to peel.

3-6 Clementines
3-6 Bananas
Plain Yogurt
Half a box of vanilla pudding

Peel and separate clementines. Cut up bananas. Put everything in a large bowl and stir to combine. Refrigerate leftovers.

My Favorite Christmas Present

My favorite Christmas present wasn't one that I got, but one that the kids got. Santa brought them LeapFrog Tag readers and a set of books. These things have made the bed time routine at night such a breeze. I'm not sure how long that will last, but it is definitely holding their interest for the time being.

Just a picture of the sky one night at sunset, as seen from my front door.

A Trip to the Zoo

The day after Christmas we went to the National Zoo. We were going to try and go to the National Harbor to see the Ice Show at The Gaylord, but the ticket prices were outrageous! Then we thought we might go to the Botanical Gardens to see the trains set up, but when we drove by the line was wrapped around the building. So it was off to the zoo!

We had a lot of fun. The prairie dogs were super adorable and I took my first trip into the reptile house. In years past, I always missed going into the reptile house because of the crowd and/or strollers or any other number of reasons. It was very cool.

The tortoise pictured at the bottom was Trent's favorite. When he sat down at the display the tortoise started walking towards him. He was talking to it and he had to tell it secrets before we left. To get him away I told him we would come back another day. :D

Tomato Soup

Trent and I have started making tomato soup from scratch. We make the meatball soup recipe from Deceptively Delicious, but don't make the meat balls. I love it. He says he does. I think he just likes making it.

Christmas Morning

This is what it looked like right after Santa visited our house. The kids totally didn't deserve it, but who can resist giving your kids a good Christmas?

Christmas Dinner

I made new recipes this year for dinner. I made a roast in my dutch oven that was just wonderful, and cheesy crock pot potatoes, fresh pesto bread and lemon garlic roasted broccoli. It was sooooooooo good. Just what we needed after a day of eating sweets and nothing with much substance.

Christmas Eve 2011 Activities

We had a rough Christmas Eve. Our anniversary is the day before, so after the kids went to bed Garrick and I went downstairs to watch movies together. We fell asleep watching the Hogfather. Trent was good enough to wake up and upon discovering that we were not in our room, searched for us. When he found us downstairs he proceeded to climb all over us and talk to us. When we didn't respond, he spent the rest of his time running around the house. We just didn't have it in us to even acknowledge him. We finally got up at three in the morning to go to bed and found the boy sitting in our bed eating food and watching tv.

I figure Trent came down and started harassing us at midnight. So he ran around the house for three hours. I could not function on Christmas Eve as a result. I had planned on doing special Christmas activities with the kids all day. By the time I got myself pulled together enough to do anything with them, it was evening. At least we had fun making the cookies. We did sprinkle magic dust outside of all of our doors and hang our stockings, but I didn't get the chance to take pictures of that.
