Last week I took a book out of the library for the kids called "Cock-A-Doodle Moooo! A Mixed-Up Menagerie" by Keith DuQuette. I really had no idea what it was about and after reading it with the kids I decided this one required a cookie activity.
The book starts off with an explanation about mythical creatures such as griffins and kappas. It then poses the question to children, why can't we make our own mythical creatures? In then proceeds to make all sorts of silly creatures, such as a squoodle (part squid, part poodle) and a girantula (giraffe and tarantula). After reading the book, Trent and I made a sugar cookie dough and pulled out all of our animal cookie cutters. We made a bunch of mixed up animals ourselves. The first one we made was a Liotterfly, a lion with butterfly wings. Unfortunately, I forgot how difficult my cookie cutters can be and the project wound up being very frustrating for me. A lot of the cookie cutters are very thin and it is difficult to get the dough out with tearing it. Even after greasing them or greasing them and adding flour. Still, I think that the cookies turned out very well.
