Think She Wants a Dog House?

I have been spending all week concentrating on potty training the youngest man in the house. It's been going well. Disquietingly so. Anyway, when Hunter went poopy on the potty for the first time ever this morning I rewarded him with a huge lollipop. Gave one to Trent as well. Afterwards, the kids spent a lot of time in the bath while I cleaned up around the house. Now we're chillin' outside and Icesis has claimed their toy garage as her own apparently.

Homemade Wheat Thins

Yesterday the kids and I made wheat thins. It was so ridiculously easy. I think it would take about fifteen minutes to make them and they were sooooooo good. Here the kids are playing with the extra dough; rolling it out and using cookie cutters. I'm really loving all of the homemade versions of stuff that I'm finding on pinterest nowadays.

Homemade Orange Cleaner

I've taken to using straight vinegar to clean my home with. I saw this idea on pinterest and decided to give it a go. Should be ready in a few days. You just take orange peels, put them in a container and pour vinegar over it. Cover and let sit for ten days. Strain, put in a spray bottle and you should have a lovely smelling orange cleaner. I'll update when I find out how well it works. I also found a recipe for an enzymatic cleaner that I want to try at some point as well.

St. Patrick's Day Meal

Tried to get creative with a St. Patrick's day lunch for the kids. Dyed some cream cheese green and spread it on crackers, green grapes, green dyed milk and green veggie chips. In hopes that Hunter might try the grapes I made a yogurt marshmallow dip that I hoped he would use. No such luck. I think he would totally love fruit if he would just give it a chance.

Terrariums

I've been wanting to make some terrariums with the kids for some time now. Something about seeing them plastered all over pinterest has motivated me to finally do it. I actually like pinterest a lot because it's inspiring me to do projects that I usually say "I should do that" and then forget about a little while later.

I went out and bought everything we would need to make them. Thrift store and recyclables for the glass jars. Lowe's for the moss, peat and dirt. The pet store for the charcoal. We assembled everything and the kids had a blast making them. We made one big one together and each of the kids made a smaller one. Unfortunately, we added too much water to the big one and everything in it is getting covered in fungus, but the little ones seem to be doing really well. That's ok, though. We can just remake the big one!

Grow Snow Sensory Bin

I'm trying to do more sensory bins with the kids. They tend to really occupy Trent and sometimes even Hunter. Here is Trent playing with grow snow. It comes in a little container, you add water and it grows. I just dumped the entire package in the bin and let the kids go to town with it. I think it was the most snow the kids saw all Winter. If you can call it a winter. It was more like a chilly Fall that went straight into Summer.

Working Dishwasher

Photo

Beginning of this month we got our dishwasher fixed after a year of it being broken. It really made me appreciate the thing so much more and I am now doing a much better job of keeping my kitchen clean. This picture is of it's first run after being fixed. Hurray!

Went to a restaurant at the beginning of the month that didn't do crayons for the kids. Instead they have a strip of blackboard paint on the walls around the room and each table has a bucket with sidewalk chalk. It's one of the first times the kids were completely occupied right up until the food was brought out to us. Made me realize that restaurants need to start getting creative with their kid activities, because the paper and crayons bit hasn't really worked for my kids for quite some time now.

February National Zoo Trip

February tends to be my favorite time of year to visit the National Zoo. Well, any of the cold months are. The crowds tend to be smaller and I'm not dealing with heat and humidity. My in-laws were visiting in February for an entire week and the two activities I asked them to do were the National Zoo and the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum Annex. We did both and these are some of the pictures from our zoo trip.

It was the first time that I have been to the zoo and I actually saw the orangutans using the "o-line," a series of cables connecting the great ape house to the Zoo's "Think-Tank" exhibit. We also saw the lowland gorillas outside. We ate lunch outside of they're enclosure and when the apes came outside, you could smell the male ape as he left the building. The pandas were out and being adorable. All in all, we had a really nice time.

Trent really wanted to go to Georgetown Cupcake because we have been watching the series on Netflix, but we couldn't find any parking when we got to Georgetown and I wasn't going to spend all afternoon looking for a spot. We'll try again another time. :D

Trying To Pull It Together

I've had a busy two months. I went on a three week trip to Florida with my Aunt back in January and it was fabulous. We stayed at her condo and the weather was beautiful the entire time we were there with the exception of two rainy days. We got back in February, a day after the Super Bowl. Took us well over a week to recuperate from that. Then my In-Laws came to visit and we had a lot of fun with them. We did the zoo and the Air and Space Museum Annex. I was still having a hard time getting back into the swing of things, but really wanted to start the South Beach Diet with Garrick. We started that and we made it past the first week and though most of the second then..... The sickies struck! That's right! Between allergies and a cold, everyone in my house was miserably ill. I gave up on the diet three days before the first phase of it was over so I could take care of my little guys.

Technically I should have been able to keep up with blogging, despite not having internet access. It would have been pretty simple to just email my entires using my posterous account, but what can I say? I really like using the MacBook to type out my entries. If I have a lot of writing to do, it's a little cumbersome using my phone to assemble the post. Here's to hoping tonight's posts are the first of many more chronologically closely spaced blog entries. I still have a lot of stuff to put on here about my trip to New York AND now the past two months. I'm such a slacker...

What I've Been Up To...

So I haven't made an entry on my blog for two months. These pictures should pretty much sum up why. We have been some busy bees, and this isn't even everything!
