Early in our NY trip the kids and I went to the Schenectady Museum. They have a planetarium there and bunch of exhibits about trains. Because Schenectady is home to General Electric, there are a lot of science based exhibits at this museum in addition to a planetarium.
Trent is standing next to a cardboard cut out of Charles Proteus Steinmetz. I used to play in Steinmetz park all the time as a kid and had no idea who this man was until this particular visit to the museum. He sounded like an interesting fellow. Here's his wiki entry.
The kids were mostly interested in playing with the train tables or the computers that were available at the museum.
